The National Policy on Education-1986 envisaged setting up of residential schools, to be called Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, that would bring out the best of rural talent. It was felt that children with special talent or aptitude should be provided opportunities to progress at a faster pace by making good quality education available to them irrespective of their capacity to pay for it. Such education would enable students from rural areas to compete with their urban counterparts on an equal footing; seamlessly assimilating and integrating them into the mainstream of the society.
The Navodaya Vidyalaya System which began as a unique experiment, is today unparalleled in the annals of school education in India and elsewhere. Its significance lies in the selection of talented rural children as the target group and the attempt to provide them quality education comparable to the best in a residential school system.

About JNV Banavasi, Kurnool
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Kurnool was established in 1987 in accordance with NPE-1986. It is situated at a distance of 80 kms from the district headquarters Kurnool. Located away from the din and bustles of city life in the lap of nature and encircled by fertile and cultivatable land. This Vidyalaya is spruced up with all the ingredients that titivate it with a conducive and congenial academic environment and make it a modern school worth the name.
The Vidyalayas seek to promote and develop talented, bright and gifted children predominantly from rural areas who may otherwise be denied good educational opportunities. The Vidyalaya provides facilities of international standards at free of cost, in comparison to equivalent schools both nationally & internationally, with substantial contribution to the advancement of knowledge.
The Vidyalaya prides in its sophisticated infrastructure which provide the motivating environment to learning atmosphere. The school building providing classrooms, Laboratories, a computer room, Samsung Smart Class Room, Resource Room, a library, display areas, administrative and faculty rooms. The entry extends on to a platform which acts as a stage during assembly. Side entrances provide access for residential wings. There are hostels which are designed to have good security with closed internal courtyard for outdoor living and passive recreation.

About JNV Kurnool Alumni And Welfare Trust
JNV Banavasi began in 1987 with 80 students in Gajuladinne with temporary buildings, subsequently relocating to Banavasi. The school developed and demonstrated its superiority in academics and sports under the leadership of founder principal Sri.S.V.Reddappa sir. So far, 31 batches have graduated. Around 2500 alumni graduated from this school. Many of its alumni have advanced positions such as Judges, Collectors, Doctors, CA’s, and Scientists ,Software professionals, entrepreneurs etc.
The alumni association, established in 1996, was officially registered as the “JNV Kurnool Alumni and Welfare Trust” in 2014, bearing the registration number Regd No: 12BK IV/2014. The alumni association played a pivotal role in orchestrating the Silver Jubilee festivities of JNV Banavasi, ensuring their successful execution.
The JNV Kurnool Alumni Association is a vibrant community of former students dedicated to fostering lifelong connections, supporting one another, and making a positive impact on society. Founded on the principles of camaraderie, service, and excellence, our association serves as a bridge between past and present students, facilitating networking opportunities, mentorship, and collaboration.
